what is welding?

One of modern man's most integral and important trades. Welding takes two pieces of metal and makes them one. Most modern people don't get out of bed before interacting with and enjoying a welded joint of some kind. By the time you've buckled your seatbelt you are entrenched in welded metal of some form.

There are two primary types of welding machines used in modern fabrication processes: constant voltage and constant voltage.

MIG welding requires a constant voltage power source. FCAW, flux-core, solid or hard wire, GMAW, are all constant voltage processes.

Solid wire MIG weld. Continuous weld.

SMAW and GTAW processes require a constant current power source. Whether it's called "stick" or "arc" or "heli-arc" welding, these are all trade terms for the welding type allowed by a constant current welding machine.

Each process has its pros and cons in the modern world.
